The highly anticipated trailer of Deepika Padukone starrer 'Chhapaak' is out and it will surely give you goosebumps. Just a few minutes ago, at the trailer launch of the film, Deepika broke down in tears while talking about the film and her journey as 'Malti'. She said that it had been an incredible journey emotionally and Chhapaak will always be a special film of her career. While talking to media Deepika averred, "Rarely do you come across a story where you have to sit through an entire narration, usually you have to sit the entire process and then think whether you want to do a film or not. It's not often when you come across a story where you know instantly in the first few minutes after meeting a directing that this is what you want to commit your life too and Chhapaak is that for me." Furthermore thanking the director Meghna Gulzar, Deepika mentioned, "Meghna thank you so much for trusting me with this. It's been an incredible journey emotionally putting it together and I feel like irrespective of how it's received and how it does, it will be the most special film of my career and I truly hope that all of you will see. I think the impact that the film supposed to have on all of us, the reason why we did this movie, I hope you see in it what we saw. We have made it with a lot of love, passion, enthusiasm and with a lot of responsibility". Meanwhile, the 2 minutes 19 seconds trailer takes one through the ordeal of Malti (played by Deepika Padukone) an acid attack victim. From being a girl next door to be one unfortunate acid attack survivor, the trailer comprises of all. 'Extraordinary' is the only word that comes in our mind after witnessing this Meghna Gulzar's film, which is sure to change the mindset of the masses. The film which also features Vikrant Massey in a quintessential role is slated to release on 10 January 2020.

Chhapaak Trailer Out: Deepika Padukone’s Trauma-to-Triumph Story as Acid Attack Survivor Will Wrench Your Heart Out

Stunned, speechless and worthy of a standing ovation is our first reaction to the trailer of Meghna Gulzar-directorial Chhapaak which dropped recently with lead stars Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey nailing their respective characters in the untold true story of the acid attack survivor, Laxmi Aggarwal. The trailer is gripping from the word go and will surely leave you shaken and your heart wrenched by the end of it.
Opening to a scene of heavy protests following the Nirbhaya case, the trailer moves to a lawyer wanting to collect and fight Malti, the acid attack survivor’s case. The moment Malti is addressed, we see Deepika on the road, writhing in pain, face down as acid is thrown on her by unseen men. What follows is a traumatic journey of landing with a forever scarred face, self-loathing sessions in the mirror, ostracised by the society and the will to give up all fondness of dressing up. Enter a warm, accepting lawyer and Malti is ready to fight her case and take on the world, a decision which turns fruitful in meeting her future husband Vikrant. Vikrant’s entry into her life proves love exists beyond the barriers and norms of physical beauty. This journey, from trauma to triumph is beautifully helmed like only the Filmfare award-winning director, Meghna could do.

Chhapaak will mark Deepika’s first film after the wedding with Ranveer Singh and it is slated to hit the screens on January 10, 2020. Deepika is playing the role of Malti and her transformation took the internet by storm. She sat through two-and-a-half hours of prosthetics every day for her look in the film. Meghna had talked about the transformation earlier and said in a statement, “Malti’s presence onscreen reflects the expression in Deepika’s eyes and on her face which comes through the prosthetics. But you won’t see all that she went through behind the scenes onscreen. And that’s the most beautiful part.”
Chhapaak trailer: Deepika Padukone channels the strength and pain of acid attack survivors in powerful film. Watch
The first trailer for Deepika Padukone’s upcoming film, Chhapaak is out. The trailer is hard-hitting as it tells the story of an acid attack survivor and her journey to build herself again after the traumatic episode.
The film sees Deepika play Malti, a character inspired by Delhi-based acid attack victim and activist Laxmi Agarwal. The film also stars Vikrant Massey.
The film’s tone and aesthetic stays true to Meghna’s no-nonsense style. It begins with the attack itself, however, we only see her falling to ground and later, getting water splashed over her in the hospital as she screams in pain. The moment and a few that follow it might leave you with goosebumps and overwhelming anger.
Deepika channels the immense pain and trauma in the beginning and later, the strength to carry on. In the film’s lighter moments, she learns to live and laugh again. Vikrant’s character (a reporter) tells her there is still a long way to go and how will it work if she stayed this happy. She says, “Ab khush hu toh kya karu (What can I do if I am happy).” A refreshing take on the world’s idea that a victim of a horrific crime has to be in a constant state of deep sadness all their lives.

Chhapaak is directed by Meghna Gulzar of Raazi and Talwar fame. Talking about why she picked up Laxmi’s case for her film, Meghna had said earlier in an interview to PTI, “When I got to know about it, I realised the best way to deal with the issue was to use Laxmi’s case as the anchor. I got in touch with them and it took me a while to convince them that I’m not going trivialise their stories.”
Sharing the trailer release date of Chhapaak that is also Human Rights Day, Deepika had tweeted, “A moment is all it took... Trailer out tomorrow. Keep watching this space.”
Deepika has called Chhapaak her toughest film till date, “I’d say it’s the toughest movie I have ever done. Not because of the role, but because of the prosthetics. I am extremely patient person, but I had to dig deep to go through that every single day for 42 days.”

Deepika’s first film after her wedding to Ranveer Singh last year, Chhapaak sees her co-producing the film with Fox Star Studios.
Chhapaak will release on January 10 next year. The actor will also be seen in ‘83 where she collaborates with her husband as they play Romi Dev and Kapil Dev; the film is inspired by India’s underdog victory against West Indies in the 1983 cricket World Cup.
